Everything You Ever Wanted

As the children and I were sitting at the breakfast table, Micah told me that he wished he could get all the presents he could imagine for Christmas this year.  I quickly reminded him that each child only gets three presents each because that's how many Jesus received.  I told him that even if we had the money, we wouldn't get him that many presents.  "Why?" he asked.  "We know that getting everything you ever wanted is not what would be best for you" I said.
Later in the day, I began to think about myself.  Sometimes I wish that God would just give me everything that I want.  All three kids to take a nap at once.  A smooth home school day with a good attitude and no interruptions.  A day with no accidents, bumps, scratches, or Rachel putting anything random in her mouth.  I wouldn't complain about having a maid or taking several vacations a year either. Would you?  But then it hit me.  God knows what is best for me.  Having everything that I want probably is not the best thing for me. Then again I think of what He has given to me.  A faithful husband who works to provide for his family and who leads our family toward Christ.  Three healthy children who are such a joy.  A stable, comfortable home in a safe location.  An amazing family (parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, etc.).  A caring church family.  And of course the gift of Jesus Christ who forgave our sins. He really is everything that I ever wanted...and needed!
